Skybound Entertainment's Transformers series has reimagined the franchise lore and is introducing a classic Decepticon to the Energon Universe. The new series has revitalized key Hasbro comics, with a focus on the original 1984 G1 cartoon and classic character designs. The current comic series follows the Autobots' arrival on Earth and the rise of Starscream as the leader of the Decepticons. In an upcoming issue, Starscream revives one of the most powerful Decepticons to eliminate the Autobots once and for all, and a preview suggests it could be Devastator. Skybound has released a new trailer for the Energon Universe, promising big events in 2024 as the worlds of Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Void Rivals continue to expand. Devastator's return is set to cause trouble for the Autobots.Daniel Warren Johnson's Transformers story has brought back key figures from both sides of the Cybertronian Civil War. While Optimus Prime leads his heroes on Earth, Starscream is busy building an army of Decepticons, starting with Soundwave. The fifth issue's preview shows that they are continuing their work by reviving Thundercracker. The return of Devastator, who is best known for his enormous stature created by the assembly of a small group of Constructicons into one grand behemoth, is set to define the next chapter of the story. Devastator's mental capacity is limited to only that which its components agree on, making him a villain of brawn over brains. He can handily overpower most Autobots alone and is a tough challenge even for entire groups of heroes. With Optimus Prime in rough shape at the end of issue 4, the Decepticons could gain a decisive advantage. The war between the Autobots and Decepticons has been the defining conflict of the Transformers franchise since the 1984 cartoon. In the Skybound series, Optimus Prime and his friends have been on the defensive against Starscream and Soundwave, with an entire planet of innocent humans caught in the crossfire. The return of Devastator to the fray is set to make the Autobots the definitive underdogs of the story. In the original cartoon, Devastator's ability to overpower the Dinobots is considered one of the villain's most impressive achievements. Despite the Autobot creations being able to defeat even the strongest Transformers, witnessing the giant Decepticon conquer them showcased Devastator's formidable power. Starscream has proven to be just as destructive and aggressive as Megatron, and the introduction of this classic Decepticon will only further complicate matters for the Autobots in upcoming issues of Transformers. You can get your hands on Transformers #5, published by Skybound Entertainment, starting February 14.
