In the latest addition to the Alien franchise, a new and terrifying creature has been introduced, arguably even deadlier than the Xenomorphs themselves. This monstrous being, known as Winterbeast, has no direct connection to the classic Xenomorphs but shares a deep-seated hatred for them. Its official name was revealed in Alien Vol. 4 #4 by Declan Shalvey and Andrea Broccardo.

In this issue, Zasha and Dayton, her synthetic father figure, team up on the ice moon LV-695 to confront a Weyland-Yutani operative who posed a threat to their lives. They also manage to prevent Weyland-Yutani from obtaining sensitive information about the Xenomorphs, a victory that would make even Ellen Ripley proud.

During their conflict, the Weyland-Yutani crew accidentally awakens not only a horde of Xenomorphs and white Xenomorph variants but also the slumbering Winterbeast, which lurked beneath the icy depths. While Winterbeast was introduced in the previous issue, its name is revealed in this one.

Winterbeast is considered the ultimate payoff for this recent era of the Alien franchise, delivering a new level of terror that matches the visceral impact of the original Xenomorphs. This exciting development adds another layer to the ever-expanding Alien mythos.

The saga began in Alien Vol. 3/Alien Annual 2023 #1 and concluded with a war between Xenomorphs and an unknown alien species on the ice moon of LV-695. The unknown species was infected by the Xenomorphs, resulting in the creation of white Xenomorph variants established their own colony separate from the original alien species and invading Xenomorphs.

The conflict, detailed in Alien Annual 202 #1, culminated in all parties going into stasis until human activity reawed them in Alien Vol. 3. The introduction of Winterbeast added a new dimension to the cosmic horror, symbolizing a Lovecraftian Great Old One.

In the conclusion, as Xenomorphs and white variants battle each other while Winterbeast indiscriminately crushes them, it's revealed that Winterbeast had been impregnated by a Xenomorph and served as a host for a white variant. The final panel shows Winterbeast giving birth to an infant white Xenomorph nearly its own size, indicating that it will grow to be much larger than Winterbeast itself.

The current fate of the new white Xenomorph in AlienVol. 4 #4 by 20th Century Studios is uncertain. Although its death was implied, omorphs are known for their adaptability and resilience, so it is likely that white Xenomorph titan survived the bomb dropped on the moon by the Weyland-Yani ship at the end of the issue. This sets it up to be introduced as major threat in future series installments. However, for now, this kaiju serves an important character in Alien canon and has been given an official name instead of remaining an anonymous monster.
