Toho Animation has released footage for "Haikyu!! the Movie," the highly anticipated continuation of the popular volleyball sports anime, set to premiere later in February.

A new trailer for "Haikyu!! the Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump" has been unveiled. This film is the first of a duology intended to conclude the storyline adapted by Production I.G. across four anime seasons. The movie is scheduled to debut in Japan on February 16, 2024, with no international release date announced yet.

The trailer is available on Toho Animation's YouTube channel, showcasing intense sports action and promising an exciting showdown between Karasuno High and Nekoma High volleyball teams.

With clean, smooth animation, the film looks to be the perfect send-off for the beloved anime, eagerly anticipated by fans.

10 Reasons Why "Haikyu!!" is the Biggest Sports Anime

"Haikyu!!" has achieved phenomenal success as one of the most memorable sports anime, attracting audiences with its compelling narrative and dynamic characters.

"Haikyu!! the Movie" Finally Pits Longtime Rival Teams Against Each Other

Based on the original manga by Haruichi Furudate and produced by Production I.G., "Haikyu!!" features Nekoma High as recurring protagonists, providing a break from Karasuno's matches. Despite their friendly rivalry, the storyline now brings these teams head-to-head, inspired by the metaphorical "crows versus cats" imagery. The trailer highlights Hinata from Karasuno and Kenma from Nekoma as central figures in this duel. Production I.G.'s efforts are evident, with detailed and smooth animation emphasizing the power and technique of the players' moves.

The trailer also announces the return of the band SPYAIR to perform the movie's theme song, "Orange." Director Susumu Mitsunaka, a veteran Haikyu!! staff member who worked on the first three seasons, is directing the film, making him a fitting choice to conclude this sports saga. Since Production I.G. began adapting the anime in 2014, it has led to four seasons and several OVAs. With the story left unresolved since Season 4's conclusion in 2020, these movies provide a much-needed continuation.

Additionally, two million theatergoers will receive a "Volume 33.5" book, which includes a short story, notes, and a sample storyboard by Furudate. The release of the Haikyu!! movies coincides with the growing trend of films being part of an adaptation's canon, spurred by the success of "Demon Slayer: Mugen Train." Currently, there is no information on whether the Haikyu!! movies will be released in the West, but given that Crunchyroll streams all four seasons, it is likely that the streaming service will try to acquire these films as well.
