In Dead X-Men #1, a new version of Moira X has emerged as a villain, equipped with a powerful axe called Weapon M. This axe enables her to travel through different realities within the Multiverse. As a team of recently resurrected mutants embarks on a journey through the Multiverse, the X-Men must now confront this alternate version of Moira MacTaggert. She has become a nearly cyborg-like figure and has successfully created the Weapon M in the first issue of the series. With this new weapon, Moira becomes a formidable antagonist, joining the Dead X-Men in their quest and posing a significant challenge for them to overcome.
Written by Steve Foxe, with artwork by Bernard Chang, Jonas Scharf, and Vincenzo Carratù, Dead X-Men #1 follows Rachel and Xavier's team as they enter a universe that has been devastated by Sinister clone Orbis Stellaris. It is in this apocalyptic universe that the evil Moira X is introduced.
Although limited information has been provided about this version of Moira, it is known that she survived the destruction of Earth, much to Abigail Brand's surprise. Moira's life seemingly followed a similar path to her Earth-616 counterpart until the downfall of Earth. For the past ten years, she has been searching for the final piece needed to complete her reality-traversing Weapon M—an axe with extraordinary properties across different realities. Moira believes that mysterium, a powerful mutant metal found in the White Hot Room, is the missing element. She joins the battle on the floating Arakko in an attempt to obtain it, further entangling herself with the Dead X-Men's mission and potentially spelling disaster for them.A data page has been released detailing the construction of Weapon M, revealing that it is made primarily of Omega Red's carbonadium coil, an adamantium femur from a Wolverine corpse, Xorn's blackhole head, and reinforcements from vibranium harvested from Gentle's corpse. The weapon is described as horrifying not only because of its power, but also due to the inhumane and immoral methods used by Moira in obtaining its parts. After Smasher destroys Orbis Stellaris' celestial M'Kraan Crystal, Moira believes a shard of the crystal to be mysterium, using it to complete Weapon M and inadvertently making the weapon even more powerful than she had hoped.
The M'Kraan Crystal, known as the Nexus of All Realities, at one point housed the White Hot Room and is connected to the Phoenix Force. Even a small shard of the crystal allows for travel between realities and through time. Xavier hopes to kill Moira in her first life before her powers manifest, but they now face a vengeful Moira with the ability to travel through time and reality, planning to ensure her victory in all her lives.
The Dead X-Men believe they have obtained valuable information to bring to Xavier for the assassination of a young Moira, but they have also made a powerful and monstrous enemy in the process. This alternate reality Moira will stop at nothing to ensure her success, and with Weapon M in her possession, she may just be strong enough to achieve it.
