Raphael is a renowned member of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and his final fate is a tragic one. In issue #147, it is revealed that Raphael is suffering from the effects of time travel, causing his mind to deteriorate. This version of Raphael intervened in the timestream to protect his family, just like Donatello and Venus. Unfortunately, the constant sliding through time has taken a toll on his mental health, making him a cautionary tale for other characters. The story also introduces Donatello's daughter as a powerful new member of the TMNT.Raphael’s condition is heartbreaking because his mind has deteriorated due to time travel, and he carries around the mask of his best friend, Casey Jones, and speaks to it regularly. He blames himself for Casey’s death and feels haunted by it. He was once a proud warrior, but now he is the last remaining relic of his lost timeline, waiting out the end at the Timestress Citadel in Null-Time. Although Raphael's final fate is marked by sadness, there is a silver lining as he gets one last shot at dying a warrior’s death when Armaggon consumes the Timestress’ Citadel. While this fate may not befall the prime version of Raphael, it is hard for fans to see any version of Raphael meet such a tragic end, even if it is a warrior’s death. Despite this small silver lining, Raphael’s fate in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #147 by IDW Publishing is absolutely heartbreaking.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987) originally aired on December 14, 1987.
