Raj's inability to develop thoughtful and considerate behavior throughout his romantic relationships on The Big Bang Theory served as a poignant reminder that he was not ready for a mature and fulfilling romantic connection.

While Raj's best romance in The Big Bang Theory proved to be a tragic ending, it ultimately served as a poignant reminder that even the most passionate love stories are not immune to fate's cruel hand.

However, Raj’s biggest issue was never properly addressed by the hit sitcom. In The Big Bang Theory’s cast of characters, Raj was the lone lead who ended up single when the series ended. While this could have been a good twist and might have proven that not everyone needs a romantic relationship to have a fulfilled life, The Big Bang Theory didn’t take the meek character down that route. Instead, after Raj overcame his fear of talking to women, most of his romances petered out without much fanfare. This was particularly notable in his best relationship with Emily Sweeney’s Emily.

In season 7, episode 17, “The Friendship Turbulence,” Raj first met Emily on his first attempt to convince Amy to talk to her. Despite his initial fear and the setup arranged by Amy, Raj eventually overcame his fear and enjoyed his first proper date with Emily. This relationship was one of Raj's longest and most significant, spanning from season 7 to season 9. However, by the finale of The Big Bang Theory, Raj was single again due to a lack of regard for others' feelings.

In season 9, episode 15, “The Valentino Submergence,” Raj broke up with Emily to ask out Claire, another girl he had recently met. When this failed, Raj then attempted to get Emily back. However, he later decided to pursue a potential romantic interest, leading to a brief but unsuccessful relationship before breaking off with her as well. This storyline suggested that Raj’s meekness had become a barrier to him finding meaningful connections, ultimately leading to him making a series of impulsive and self-centered decisions regarding his love life.Once he finally learned to talk to women, Raj repeatedly proved himself to be a careless and indifferent boyfriend. This made it tough to root for the character, especially when his friends Sheldon and Howard grew and changed so much during the series. All of Raj’s Big Bang Theory relationships could have illustrated new sides of him, but these storylines instead repeatedly reinforced that he wasn't ready for a mature romantic relationship. While Raj’s relatively long romance with Emily Sweeney ended in disaster, this was no major surprise since The Big Bang Theory consistently proved he wasn't committed to keeping his relationships.
